Eyecare for children

It is particularly important to monitor the eyes during a child's developmental years. Which is why we advise annual eye examinations for all children under the age of 16. The earlier a problem is detected, the more effectively it can be treated.

Sooner than later

Children should have their first eye examination by the age of four, before if any problems are suspected.

We provide free NHS eye tests for all children under 16 and for those under 19 in full time education. And we recommend that eye examinations for children are repeated once a year.
